People Care

20 10 2009

Hurricane Katrina was first formed over the Bahamas and crossed over to the south of the United States passing Florida and the Gulf of Mexico. The hurricane got stronger hitting New Orleans, Louisiana. Hurricane Katrina was a category 5 hurricane. It flooded many people homes and cities. Typhoon Ondoy dropped 455mm of rain on Metro Manila, which is months worth of rain in 24 hours. Over 360 people have been killed and damage estimates about $100 million. The Philippines is a third world country, which Ondoy left many more people homeless. The Philippines government efforts to help the victims of Ondoy were very slow, inadequate, and a shortcoming of rescue operations. People all over the world have come together to organize their own relief efforts and operations. During hurricane Katrina many volunteered their time and donated necessities for the victims of Katrina. Many students and families across the United States have donated money, clothes, blankets, non-perishable food, medicines, toiletries and other basic necessities to the victims of Ondoy. Many would call, text their friends and post on facebook to alert friends about different relief efforts available. The government in the Philippines is very corrupt and many organizations are false, those who donate should look into the organizations to know if your donations really go to the victims of Ondoy.
