Sneakerheads Doing Their Part

9 10 2009

The devastation in the Philippines caused by Typhoon Ondoy has left many without homes and many who lost loved ones. Hundreds of people are doing what they can to help those who are affected by Typhoon Ondoy. As I was looking at one my daily sneaker blog sites, I found a relief effort for the Typhoon Ondoy victims that really caught my attention; the website, http://nicekicks.com/, held an auction for the very limited Manny Pacquiao Nike Trainer 1 “Lights Out” sneakers. These shoes were released commemorating Manny Pacquiao’s knockout of Ricky Hatton last May. The shoe was released in limited numbers in the Philippines and certain sneaker shops in the USA including Niketown SF and Fatlace, also in San Francisco. The shoe was released in limited quantities and some spots like Niketown SF held a raffle just to buy the shoes. Nice Kicks auctioned these shoes with all the proceeds of the auction going to the Typhoon Ondoy relief efforts. The auctioned ended at 465 dollar; the retail price for the shoe was 92 dollars. Most resellers of a hyped shoe like these would pocket money, but this website went an entirely different direction and used all the profit gained from these shoes to help a country in need. It is fitting that a shoe that is commemorating one of the Philippines National Hero, is being used to help those victims that were affected by Typhoon Ondoy. Here are some pictures of the shoes that were auctioned off (via www.nicekicks.com).
